This 900-year-old scheduled ancient monument is located in the South Downs National Park, an area of outstanding natural beauty. The Castle includes a Grade I listed 1920s mock Tudor manor house within its walls which incorporates some of the original medieval walls.
Working directly for Andrew Brownsword Hotels we commenced a strategic review of the site and its limitations in use as a luxury hotel.
In close consultation with Sussex archaeologists, listed building officers and English Heritage we successfully achieved listed building consents for conversions of internal spaces, improved bathroom facilities and the creation of new suites. In addition, we were granted consent for the conversion of a redundant stable block into a hotel suite with a courtyard garden and commenced pre-application discussions for a new spa and glazed extension at the rear of the building within the walls.
